Do you ever have days when you feel like you’re spinning in circles?
Or even worse, you can’t seem to complete one circle!
I begin to do one thing. Then I look in another direction and see something else I need to begin – or finish (because I moved away from it at some point).
However, as soon as one thing is done, several more to-do’s have generated. Or I’ve created them.
More circles.
Whining and Complaining have been my companions recently. (They hang out around spinning circles.) Talking to God about them, a word came to mind. Rhythm.
Webster’s Dictionary enlightened my perspective of this word. The Greek root rhein means to flow.
God’s Word gave direction. “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.” (Proverbs 4.23)
Flow.
Moving in rhythm with God.
Aiming to be present to His presence.
For the hour. For the day.
Too many days, I try to make my own rhythm. And I end up making more circles.
The words around verse 23 lead us out of spinning in circles:
“My son, be attentive to my words;
incline your ear to my sayings.
Let them not escape from your sight;
keep them within your heart.
For they are life to those who find them,
and healing to all their flesh….
Let your eyes look directly forward,
and your gaze be straight before you.
Ponder the path of your feet;
then all your ways will be sure.” (Proverbs 4.20-22, 25-26)
Holy Spirit of God, we want to move in Your flow for this day. Strengthen us to discern and ignore distraction. Help us embrace the plans You reveal as the hours pass. Fill us with the grace to be content in You. Amen.
