To Know You Are Loved Deeply

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you who are moms! I hope you experience a giant glimpse of how cherished you are by those you love!

Whether you’re a mom or not, it’s a blessing to have days when we taste the beautiful love that God has for us.

God knows how you and I wrestle with how we see ourselves. Some days our heart is peaceful, yet other days, the assault of worry, regret, comparison, or feeling inadequate overwhelms us. Often circumstances, or circumstances we imagine, dominate our perspective.

“‘For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace share not be removed,’ says the LORD, who has compassion on you.” (Isaiah 54.10)

Our every thought is seen and each unspoken experience and emotion in our heart is known. . . And God’s love for you and me never changes. Never.

You, my friend, are loved deeply by the Father. Savor this truth and let it soak in to your soul—

YOU are loved deeply.  Uniquely YOU. God designed you differently from every person who has lived before you, who walks the earth now, and who will one day take steps here. YOU, special you, are made by him with delight and for his delight.

“…my steadfast love shall not depart from you”

You ARE loved deeply.  This moment, as you slept last night, in your weaknesses, sadnesses, trials, and joys—God IS pouring perfect love over you. Be still; believe this; receive; and rest in his love for you.

“…my steadfast love shall not depart from you”

You are LOVED deeply.  Perfectly, not conditionally. This is hard to imagine, yet it’s true. Every detail of who you are right now today is covered with God’s grace and blanketed with his love. The part of you that feels unforgivable, ashamed, like a failure, or unworthy—God loves.

“…my steadfast love shall not depart from you”

You are loved DEEPLY.  God’s love heals, comforts, and restores. His love fills cracks and empty places in our heart that life experiences–or absence of these–have made. The power of his love transforms us. Our heavenly Father wants us to step closer to him, to open our heart to receive the fullness of his amazing love.

Dear God,
I want to know the truth of these words fully in the deepest part of my heart—that I am loved deeply by you. I open my heart to you right now. Heal, comfort, and restore me. Fill every crack and empty place with your love. Transform me that I live knowing how deeply I am loved by you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

A Mother’s Perspective and Prayer for May

DSC00004Happy (belated) Mother’s Day!

Don’t you like the way that Mother’s Day is in May? I like to think it gives us a second wind to finish this month strong. (just kidding)

When our children lived at home, I loved the month of May and I braced myself for May. I loved that the school year was soon to end – which meant homework reminders, last-minute projects, making lunches, hurried mornings, jam-packed afternoons, and rushed suppers would end for a season. I braced myself for everything that would happen before that. During May every final project, paper, test, exam, field trip, award ceremony, athletic game or play-off, art or music or drama program, or other special day happens. It’s just the way it is.

Every year I tried to “handle” May better than the year before. I tried not to live to get through it, but to savor it. Plenty of hours I failed, but plenty were delicious.

Through the hurried meal preps and even-more-hurried meals, the endless car time, the homework, after-school activities, and learning how to get along under our own roof – our family grows. Our children are learning – all kinds of things. Activities reveal interests, accomplishment, or a new friend. Moments around the table, in the car, or hurrying out the door provide snapshots of relationship growth, even friendship. We are learning.

DSC00975I hope you find this prayer helpful to savor more days of May ~

Dear God,
Thank you for giving me today and for each of my children. I commit this day to you. Help me seek and follow your plan – and not mine. Prepare me for what you already know will be a part of this day. I give you my weariness, my hurts, and my worries. Please refresh, heal, and comfort me. Fill me with your love and help me love with your love this day. Help me see each child the way you do. Alert me to be present to you – so my thoughts, words, and behavior reflect you more. Help me learn to seize moments to be still and enjoy each child. Thank you that you love me so much. I love you. Amen.

The Importance of You

IMG_0741When we become a mother, we know it’s a big moment. We’re clueless as to how big.
GOD PLACES ANOTHER LIFE IN OUR CARE.

If you’re like me, you knew very little about being a mom when you became one. I didn’t even know how to change a diaper. At every age of raising children, we work to push away thoughts of what-we-don’t-know about the season looming around the corner.

We want to be a good mom.
Every day. Every season. All of our child’s life.

IMG_0746When God gives us our child, He doesn’t go anywhere. He remains.
He’s our Number One Supporter. After all, He created us. Faithfully, He is molding us into the woman He already designed. A woman who believes she is His Beloved.

Lovingly and purposefully, God reigns over us and over our child.

First, God wants us to know how much He loves us.
He cherishes and delights in YOU. Not because of what you do…because you are His, loved with an everlasting love.

So much of the love He wants to give our child, He wants to come through us.

To be the mom that God wants us to be is to be a mom who believes and knows she is deeply and unconditionally loved by Him.

Receive God’s love for you, and let His love flow through you to your child.

Dear God,
I want to believe You love me like this. Please help me grow to know this in my heart. I choose to receive Your love. Thank You. Amen.

Happy Mother’s Day!
