Passionate Pursuit {day 19}: Blessed by Jealousy

DSC01996He got more than me.
I didn’t get to play with it as long as she did.

Even as toddlers, our children compared what they received. From the amount of ice cream in their bowl to sharing a new toy.

We want more. We want the most. We want what we don’t have.

Have you ever been jealous? I have.
Something someone else has, I want. Because of the kinds of things I’ve been jealous about, I used to struggle to understand Bible verses like:

“…for I the LORD your God am a jealous God…” (Exodus 20.5a)
“…they moved him to jealousy with their idols.” (Psalm 78.58b)

God is jealous for first place in our heart.
Deepest Devotion.
Way over our devotion to people, work, our stuff, exercise or our leisure.
The result – All other affections take their rightful place.

When someone or something captivates our thoughts more than Him, God knows. He sees our heart.

As our Creator, He wants what is His.
As our Abba, He wants His child, chosen by grace.
As Messiah, He wants our heart.
As Almighty God, He deserves our DEEPEST DEVOTION.

A heartfelt response to DEEPEST LOVE.

Dear Lord,
Thank you for loving me so jealously. Lead me to give you first place in my heart, that all else comes after You. Help me live in relationship with my children, yielded to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
