Because We Don’t Know

DSC00515I sat on her bed where she lay, a cumulative exhaustion weighing her down. “You’re sweet to come. How’s everybody?” Catching her up on our family, her familiar smile emerged.

For as long as I’ve known her, I’ve admired her perseverance and faith as she faced one physical hurdle after another. Whether our conversation was about her, concern for another or the state of the world her answer was the same – “I don’t know what the answer is. God knows what’s best. All we can do is pray. And hope.”

Recently, the culmination of many hard months ravaged her soul.

“I’m sorry I’m like this,” she sighed despondently.
“You don’t need to apologize for anything. I’m glad to be here with you. I love you.”
“I know.”
“And God loves you.”
A tear rolled down her drawn cheek, “I’m not so sure about that anymore…”

DSC00506You never know what someone’s thinking.

Gently assuring her with words of truth, I realized the reason I was here today.

“God, help her know in her heart how much You love her.”

DSC00500Do our children know in their heart that God loves them?

Countless evidences in a day demonstrate God’s love for us. Yet, we may not see them. Our children may not know how to identify them. Life in this fallen world can challenge our hearts – their hearts – to doubt.

God wants to remove all doubt.

What can we do?
Tell them about Him and His love for them. Reflect His love to them.
Pray that they know. Pray without ceasing.

“For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith – that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and heigt and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians 3.14-19)
