Loving You MOST, Jesus {day 28} : We Follow

After His resurrection, Jesus visited His disciples multiple times. On one occasion He talked with Peter, the one who had 3 times publicly denied being Jesus’ follower.

“Simon…do you love me more than these?”
“Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.”
“Feed my lambs.”

“Simon…do you love me?”
“Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”
“Tend my sheep.”

“Simon…do you love me?”
“Peter was grieved because he (Jesus) said to him the third time, ‘Do you love me?’ and he said to him, ‘Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.’ “Feed my sheep.”

After saying this he (Jesus) said to him, “Follow me.” (John 21.15-19)

Jesus leads Peter to reflect as to how much he loves Him.

Jesus has loved Peter since before he was born. Before the cross, Peter was confident about his priority of love for Jesus.  Painfully, the weakness of his love was exposed. Purposefully, Jesus used this to strengthen him. He knows how strong Peter’s love for Him needs to be – for his sake, for the sake of God’s kingdom.

Changed through grace and with deep conviction, Peter professes first-place love.
‘Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.’

Jesus knows Peter loves Him MOST.
Not perfectly; most.
He is ready to lay down his life, to stop leading it.

“Follow me.”
When we love Jesus MOST, we follow.
