“If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever…” (John 14.15-16)
“If you love me…”
Jesus knows the measure of our love for Him. He sees our hearts.
Wounded, confused, broken, lost, hardened, scared, trying …
A willing heart is what He wants. A heart that says, ‘Here I am. I want to love you MOST.’
He knows the capacity of love that we can have for Him because He IS that love.
Jesus wants this for us. He knows what it will take for us to have it.
“If you love me, keep my commands.”
Obedience demonstrates love for God. Jesus obeyed God, even to death on the cross.
Disobedience demonstrates love for self.
Practicing obedience is practicing yielding. Surrendering what we want for what God wants.
He knows it’s HARD.
…just like it’s hard for our children to yield to us.
Thank you, Jesus, that you’ve given us the Holy Spirit to help us and be with us as we try to love You MOST. Help us to remember how hard obedience is for our children, too, that we will love and help them as they try. Amen.
