I love May. But it’s a busy month! It seems to have an extra set of moving parts because it’s the wrap-every-thing-up month. We’re busy writing thank you notes or buying thank you gifts, celebrating the end of another season of commitments and/or the school year through parties, luncheons, or award ceremonies. If we have school age children, we’re trying to help them finish strong. We’re registering for summer activities, but also considering commitments, curriculums or schools for the next school year.
Busy, busy, busy. Whew! Little do our children know we’re as tired as they are!
All the while, the “regular” circumstances of life continue…
One child is struggling to pass a class or move to the next grade level. Another still has no friends so we can’t imagine what the summer is going to be like. Or, we’re concerned about the company that our child is keeping… Potty training is not happening. We neeeed our toddler to NAP! Our marriage is hanging on by a thread. We need a j-o-b. And sleep – what’s that?
The other day I was greatly encouraged as I read these verses: “Yet God my King is from of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth. You divided the sea by your might… Yours is the day, yours also the night; you have established the heavenly lights and the sun. You have fixed all the boundaries of the earth; you have made summer and winter.” (Psalm 74.12,16-17)
I read and reread this. I closed my eyes and sighed. Lord, help this become my daily focus, my daily pursuit – being in awe of how BIG You are. Too often I let my circumstance or my child’s loom large, larger than You. No-thing is larger than You. Through our circumstances, You love, lead and dwell; drawing us to Yourself, wanting us to want to know You and to experience how BIG You are.
